Riverside Park- Then & Now
December 1872 - Voters approve purchase of land from Henry Sherry.
June 1885 - The Wooden dance hall was donated by Henry Sherry
1895 - The channel dug deeper by the Corps of Engineers to allow large steamboats to land at the park.
1920 - The city received a cannon to be put in the park, but it was later donated during World War II scrap metal drive.
1948 - An anti-aircraft gun was added to the park.
1956 - A larger pavilion was built with a stage, restrooms, dance floor, and a kitchen. Funds provided by Vina Shattuck Beals.
1966 - First playground is built including the original rocket slide
1968 to 1984 - The city acquired 420 more feet of riverfront property from Mrs. Beals trust.
1993 - The
Playing in the Rain
statue was revealed in the park by Neenah native, Dallas Anderson
2007 - New improved rocket playground built
